The Growing City
What is the inspiration for your design?
When searching for that resting place at home in a big society that involves a pretty stressful atmosphere, the bathroom is especially relevant. It becomes a mere functional room to a more experimental one at home. The bathroom is now used to escape and complete relaxation, which helps them switch off from the everyday routine. When it comes to the family bathroom, where the whole family uses it, a minimalist design turns out to be the best choice to provide the room with spaciousness by using clear open spaces where natural light comes in that perfect way. Regardless of the bathroom size, we must optimize it to achieve maximum comfort and relaxation. Therefore, a bathroom must be pleasant and cozy but practical, functional, and minimalist. It is a great opportunity to bring bolder colors and patterns without going overboard into a home to make it more live and fun to use for a family bathroom.
Who is the target user and how does the design fulfill the need of the target user?
The bathroom user is a young family with young kids between the ages of 4 to 8. Therefore, it needs to be accessible safe for the youngest family members always to use the tools and feel secure in the bathroom. The simplistic line used on the space to lend to a clean environment and being in an uncluttered space is perfect for the family to start the day with a clear head. Moreover, using a slip-resistant tile for the floors is a good choice to prevent the kids from slipping and falling. The use of a half wall for the shower area prevents the rest of the bathroom from getting wet and becoming accident-prone. This family bathroom provides a separate toilet to ensure privacy, hygiene, and ease of access. It is great for when multiple people share the same bathroom; one person can use the toilet without restricting access to the bathroom for others who need to use it.
How does the design fulfill the theme for the chosen category?
Urbanization is a population of people moving from rural to urban areas, enabling cities and towns to grow. In this design, the bathroom will show the story of urbanization, where one side of the wall is just white plain porcelain tiles representing a rural area with no building. On the other side, different tall buildings are shown on another part of the wall, where people can directly see it when entering the bathroom through the door. The wall uses the same porcelain tiles with the colors of white and blue. The idea of the white color is to show the city's silhouette and other urban components. While, the idea of blue color to make it more alive, which represents the sky, where people can see birds are flying, is represented with bird-shaped pendant light, which hangs beside the vanity. The sun in the sky is represented by the round lighted mirror that can produce light just like the sun. Moreover, the shower area is the main area, representing a beautiful sunset and sunrise that can be seen permanently in rural and urban areas. Pixelated mosaic tiles show the sunset and sunrise with the gradient color of the sun. This bathroom has a simple design and plays with the colors to emphasize some areas.
How does the choice of products contribute to the purpose of the design?
With the limited space for a family bathroom used by more than two people, multi-functional products are needed to save space. By having a minimalist design for the bathroom, the choice of products almost all fulfill the purpose of simple design. The products used keep a space simple, uncluttered, and accentuate the attractive features. For example, The city washbasin cabinet features innovative functionalities by having innovative dividers and storage boxes that provide clear partitioning of large and small items. It is also complemented with a Japanesedesigned pop-up drainage system for debris and hair collection, plus well-positioned grooves and ribs to ensure efficient water drainage. The product also offers durability, ease of use, and assurance for the user. One product with many great functions, even with colors in the bathroom, the products used did not interrupt the space to create a soothing and inviting space with a timeless aesthetic.
