What is the inspiration for your design?
The world is dreaming of a post COVID recovery. This bathroom design draws inspiration from the recovery of
the last global pandemic the Spanish Flu, 100 years ago. During this recovery people began to socialise and have
fun. It was a period of parties and interior design joined the revolution with Art Deco inspiration. Art Deco design
represents the modernism and minimalism that flourished in the roaring 20s. Reflecting on the past inspires
confidence of fun and an energising future.
Who is the target user and how does the design fulfill the need of the target user?
Population growth and constraints on housing has necessitated more people living in confined apartments.
Apartments are often inhabited by singles, couples or couples with young families. This bathroom design is
targeted at couples with children between the ages of 4 to 8 years old. Most apartments are highly confined
areas requiring design to optimise the use of the space. In this design provides a 6 sqm bathroom design that
allows for multiple activities including Shower, bathing, toilet and laundry. The design provides for the functional
of adults in the care of young children It also is a space for adults to relax and enjoy at the end of the day. The
inclusion of the washer/dryer within this room takes these activities away from other areas where noise and
clutter that can be fraught living environment. The design removes clutter from the bathroom and other areas of
the apartment for the storage of clothes awaiting washing. This space, including a large bath and ambient lighting
provides a place for adults to wind down and relax, soak in the bath after the kids are put into bed.
How does the design fulfill the theme for the chosen category?
Small size apartments need to cater for the varying needs of young families. Although this bathroom area is
compact it provides the basic functional needs of a bathroom and laundry. This bathroom creates a distinctive
style to the apartment and enhances the enjoyment of those living within. Its visual appeal is inviting and
provides an ambience of relaxation.
How does the choice of products contribute to the purpose of the design?
The Art Deco style represents personal restoration and fun. Products and style have been inspired by the roaring
20 when Art Deco was in its hay day. This styling is presented by Subway tiles on walls, small explosions of colour,
Crittall - style screens for wet area, and a black metal edged arched mirror. The custom designed vanity
represents where the past meets present day with the timber finish reflecting nature. A surprisingly large size
bath has been provided, with the curvature reflecting Art Deco design.
The design reflects order, and that everything has a place. A washing machine and dryer is enclosed within a
cupboard. This cupboard also has space at the base for a washing basket for dirty laundry and with storage
above.
