What is the inspiration for your design?
Inspired by the stillnes, isolation and sunlight of the desert, the design aims to use these elements to quiet the striving mind and inspire moments of contemplation and introspection. The design goal is to create a sanctuary, a built enviroment that focuses on ones awareness on the personal moments to connect an individual to something larger than their own life and to sustain an experience of being seen, safe, soothed and secured.

Who is the target user and how does the design fulfill the need of the target user?
People with the desire to seek out solitude in a space that is designed to improve their mental health and well being. The design seeks to create an enviroment that instigates and faciltates a contemplative experience in the user. An introspective space does not show much on the outside, instead it reveals its essence when walking through it, it is solid but transparent at the same time. Concrete walls were used to create a barrier between the different areas to create a dialouge between privacy and curiosity, adding an element of mysteriousness that prompts imagination. The use of a single material (concrete) was to add an architectural element and to touch on a brief discussion of minimalism. Stairs create different heights to invite guest in gradually, giving power to the pause. The design involves a contained enviroment filtered by the overhead lights and a large glass window that brings the outside in. Light that forms a changing, introspective and intimate space.

How does the design fulfill the theme for the chosen category?
Shifting into the new normal, how people travel and what they look for are changing as well. The design has a mindful approach to adapt to the new concerns of hotel guest. Contemplative design requires deep listening, the kind of awareness and openness that comes when we stop our projections and try to perceive what really exists, and what is present before us. Creating an enviroment where people can truly pause and enjoy their own solitude are some ways to help combat loneliness and improve the health and well being of the users.

How does the choice of products contribute to the purpose of the design?
The design aims to allow users to have a fully immersive experience that is safe, relaxing and customizable to each individual. Products that are anti bacterial and eco friendly, with spa-like features were chosen to meet criterias of the purpose of the design.
